windows host / linux guest / network scanner against vmware nat

Hello!

I have VMware Server running on Windows XP Pro with a Gentoo Linux guest system. The network setting in VMware is "NAT".

When I scan with NMAP on the Linux system, my task manager on the host tells me that there are too many handles and the results of NMAP get weired. It shows that every given hosts are up although they are definately not. After some connections were made the connectivity on the host system is disabled (I can't browse the web anymore) until I restart VMware's NAT daemon.

Is there a workaround for this problem so that NMAP scanning (and other methods) will be fine?

Please help me!
