bit of a specialist one this
I am trying to install DataPoint USA RMS 5.1 on as a guest os, and am having some 'issues'
Issue 1:
The OS comes on 3 floppies and a CD-Rom. The first floppy boots and then requests the second. When the host machine is booted onto the floppies directly it goes through the 3 floppies and then looks for the CD. When trying to run as a guest, I cannot get it to see the 2nd floppy ! The OS appears to try to interact with the hardware directly and doesn't allow the change of floppy.
If i boot the machine onto the floppies the diskette light stays one whilst there is a diskette in the drive, even if it is not being accessed.
I have tried using floppy images, to the same effect.
Issue 2:
If i use an older release of the media, it gets past the floppy problem but then reports an 1896 error, which (i am reliably told) means that kernel is incorrect for the hardware. Again when the host server is booted onto the floppy media directly it works, so it looks like the emulation is not reporting the CPU accuratly when there is a request from the guest.
Does anyone have any ways of allowing the guest to 'hold onto' the floppy or to influence how VMware reports its processor ?
thanks
