ok, so here's the setup. 64 bit VT enable host (server 2003 64bit edition). 3 32 bit guests all running windows 2000 server.
Previously these 3 guests were on a 32 bit host (Windows 2000 Server Advanced) running GSX server. A new server was purchased (dual 5160 procs, 16 GB Ram). So, after reading the information I could find I decided to use a 64 bit host OS (Server 2003 64 bit eddition). It seemed that it may provide a slight performance edge. What I appear to be observing is the opposite. Even though the new server has faster drives, faster processors... faster everything. I'm getting very poor disk I/0 for the guest VMs. These exact guests never displayed these issues on at 32 bit host running GSX server.
Has anyone else experienced or know of any know performance issues caused by running 32 bit guests on a 64 bit host? If it means I'll get better performance, I'll happily switch the host to a 32 bit os.
Thanks in advance,
Daniel
