I purchased a PCMCIA network card based on the RealTek 8169 chipset. I am hosting VMWare Server on a Win XP laptop as a portable "proof of concept" toolkit. This same card when booted under Linux runs great with 802.1Q trunking to build virtual NICs for each VM Guest to attach to. My WinXP system just has an on/off switch to enable or disable 802.1q capability.
My question: Can VMWare Server take it from there to support 802.1Q VLANs to the 8 possible Host NIC slots, or is it the job of Windows XP to provide this first? If it is the latter, can anyone point me the right direction?
