Can NFS work over NAT to share host files with guests?

I'm not an NFS nor a network expert, so I need some help with this.  I usually use NAT networking with my VMware guests.  I need to share files on my host with my two VMware guests, and since Server doesn't have a "shared directory" option like Workstation has, I thought that the best thing would be NFS (although I would be interested to hear if anything thinks Samba is a better option).

Anyway, I have tried setting up an NFS server on my SUSE Linux 10 host, and an NFS client on my SUSE Linux 10 client, but the NFS mount always fails.  I read somewhere that UDP packets don't work over NAT, and I have tried doing the NFS mount from the command line specifying TCP only, but that didn't seem to help at all.

Does anyone have NFS working over NAT from host to guests?  Do I have to use bridged networking instead?  Any other tricks?  Is Samba a better choice or not?  I would be grateful for any advice.  Thanks very much in advance for any help,

Cheers, Tony.
