Sharing virtual disks between two running guests/disk hotplug/clustering

Hi,

I am currently trying to find a high-performance way to share a virtual disk between two Windows guest OSes.

The requirements:

1. the two VMs are running at the same time

2. only one VM is mounting the disk at the same time

3. at some point, the VM that mounts the disk relinguishes the control and unmount the disk, and the other VM takes over and mounts the disk

It's pretty much an active-standby cluster but needs to share the disk.

I tried to share a VD between two Windows guests but only one of them can use it due to the lock.

The vmware-cmd also does not seem to support disconnectdevice properly (somewhat works for floppy, but not for scsi disks).

Any suggestions?

I am running VMWare server on 64-bit OpenSuse, and guests are Windows Server 2003.
