Hi!
I installed RC2 (Build 27828) on Windows XP. I then installed a Guest Win 2k3. All fine. Next, I rebooted the machine and started VMware again. The guest was gone from the inventory list. When I try to add it again (by clicking on File -> Open -> Brows), I get the following well known error message:
Unable to add virtual machine "C:\Virtual Machines\DGD Server\Windows Server 2003 Standard Edition.vmx" to the inventory:
Virtual machine is already in the inventory[/b]
In "C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\VMware\VMware Server\vmlist", I find:
# This file is automatically generated.
\# Hand-editing this file is not recommended.
config "C:\Virtual Machines\DGD Server\Windows Server 2003 Standard Edition.vmx"[/b]
I now emptied that file, started VMware and tried to open the guest. A different error message:
Unable to add virtual machine "C:\Virtual Machines\DGD Server\Windows Server 2003 Standard Edition.vmx" to the inventory:
Invalid virtual machine[/b]
Is that the reason, why the guest didn't show up in the inventory? Why is the VM invalid? I created it with RC2 just prior to rebooting.
Edit:
I did not mess with the .vmx file. It contains:
