I am installing GSX onto a Dell 1800 with a DRAC (Dell Remote Access Card). The DRAC creates two vitual devices (VIRTUALCDROM and VIRTUALFLOPPY). These are visible in Windows 2003. These devices cause VMWare to hang. I have tried the following combinations:
Windows 2000 Host / VMWare Workstation 5
Windows 2003 Host / VMWare Workstation 5
Windows 2000 Host / VMWare GSX Server 3
Windows 2003 Host / VMWare GSX Server 3
All of them hang as soon as I power on a virtual machine. The screen shows the VMWare BIOS startup and the bar goes about halfway across the screen. In the VMWare.log file the last entry was VMWare detced a CDRom of "\Y:" or something like that.
The workaround is to disable these virtual drives on the DRAC. Is there a special driver that would allow them to be enabled? I don't want them virtualized in my guest machines, but I do want them in the host.
