Could someone give me a start on setting up file sharing between a linux host and windows or linux guest? Previous topics say that samba is the way to go, so I read the VMware server virtual machine guide. On page 235, it says, "On a Linux host computer, VMware Server can automatically install and configure a Samba server to act as a file server for Microsoft Windows guest operating systems."
So far as I can tell, this is false. I can find no reference to samba in vmware-config.pl or in any setting in the server. Further, page 206 says, "This configuration is for the 2.0.6 version of Samba installed by VMware Server. The configuration files are placed in /etc/vmware/vmnet1/smb by default."
There is no such file. Further, page 239 mentions vmware-smbpasswd, but that file is not part of the distribution.
Help? I'm thinking I should be using the workstation, not the server. What advantages does the server have, other than remote administration?
Thanks.
