I have a 4 core (8 way w/ hyperthreading) Xeon EMT with 32GB running VMware server beta (Windows 2003 x64 standard installed).
There are 5 virtual machines running, all with VMtools installed. Performance of the virtual machines is \_much_ more sluggish then I have experienced with ESX on similar hardware, or workstation on even slower hardware.
When the machines are idle each instance of the vmware-vmx.exe process is continually consuming 3% CPU according to task manager on the host. So the host is idling at 15% CPU.
This happens regardless of whether the VMware console is running or not.
Is this normal?
