booting from floppy

Hello,

RE: free virtualization product, VMware Server.  Can I boot to the G:\dos\disk1.iso?

I would like to run MSDOS 6.22.  I have my original MSDOS 6.22 floppy disks of which I made *.iso files.

Although the "Use Floppy Image" file within VMware Server defaults to files ending with *.flp and *.img I am using a *.iso file (I don't know the difference between any of those extensions).

My computer uses Windows XP Pro SP2 with 2 GB memory.  150 GB free space.  I'm running the Virtual Machine on the partition G:\Virtual Machines\msDOS\Windows 3.1.vmx.

My boot path is Device: Floppy: G:\dos\disk1.iso.

Virtual Machine hardware Settings are,

\- Device: Memory.                 Summary: 32 MB.

\- Device: Hard Disk: (IDE 0:0).       Summary: (nothing is listed).

\- Device: CD-ROM: (IDE 1:0).            Summary: Auto detect.

\- Device: Floppy:                Summary: G:\dos\disk1.iso

\- Device: Ethernet:                Summary: Bridged.

\- Device: Audio.                Summary: Sound Blaster Live.

\- Device: Processors.                Summary: 1.

How I "Start the DOS Virtual Machine"

1. Click Start this virtual machine.

2. Press Esc to enter BIOS.

3. First window is;

Boot Menu

+Removable Devices (white lettering)

+Hard Drive (blue lettering)

CD-ROM Drive (blue  lettering)

Network boot from AMD Am79C970A (blue lettering)

5. I tab over to tab labeled "Boot".  I see,

\- Removable Devices

  - Legacy Floppy Devices is selected (highlighted in white lettering)

+Hard Drive (blue lettering)

CD-ROM Drive (blue  lettering)

Network boot from AMD Am79C970A (blue lettering)

6. I press F10 to save and exit.

7. Although "Removable Device Legacy Floppy Devices" is selected it boots from "Network boot from AMD Am79C970A".

8. Error - msDOS - Virtual Machine

No bootable CD, floppy, or hard disk detected.

To install an operating system, insert a bootable CD or floppy and restart the virtual machine by clicking the Reset button.

Questions:

1. Is there an obvious step I'm missing?

2. Is this fixable?

3. Can I boot to the G:\dos\disk1.iso?

Thank you.
