Can't SSH to VM via SSL VPN Tunnel

I'm attempting to SSH in to a SUSE Linux 10 VM over an SSL Tunnel via an AEP Netilla SSL VPN box. VMWare Server is running on SUSE10.

SSH connections from the local network are fine. However when connecting across the SSL Tunnel I get an SSH login prompt but authentication fails. Logs on the VM indicate the connection is timing out:

      Fatal: Timeout before authentication for xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx

Any suggestions?
