Howto repair unreadable VM?

Hello,

A  VM is not able to start, and can not bei mounted by vmware-mount. There is data on it, I'd like very much to retrieve.

Is there a repair tool, or what went wrong?

This is the sequel to my " Retrieve Data from virtual disk file" thread I started some days ago (http://www.vmware.com/community/thread.jspa?messageID=471036&#471036)

I'd even appreciate a "Sorry dude, forget it, it can't be repaired"-reply, because then I could stop searching for a method to recover the data.
