Since VMware are not accepting performance SRs I'll post this question here.
P4 1.4 756M 2x80G disks
a) takes 60 mins to install CentOS or Red Hat RHEL "everything" physically.
b) take 360 mins to install "everything" on a guest using GUI
c) take 180 mins to install "everything" on a guest using "linux text"
disk space pre-allocation makes no difference
running server console on separate (ubuntu live) makes no difference
\[image] \< IMG SRC = picture . jpg \> /image
where are the other I/O bottlenecks ? and what should i try next ?
d) install directly from CD/DVD (instead of .isos)
e) move .isos to 2nd hard disk
f) try a network install "linux askmethod"
