Here's my current config.
Host: Windows 2003 w/ 8GB RAM
3 Guests: Windows 2003 w/ 2332 MB of memory allocated for each guest.
Here are my calculations:
Memory Config for 3 Guests
7315MB Avail to VM Guests
/3 VM Guests
=2438MB for each VM
- 105MB overhead for each VM
= 2333MB for each VM
1. I've configured the Host Settings for Memory to "Fit all virtual machine memory into reserved host RAM, and disabled Memory Trimming for optimal performance. Is this a good idea given that I have a desent amount of RAM?
2. I noticed that each VM generates a vmem file, equal to the size of memory I've allocated, when its powered on . If I've allocated enough RAM (2332MB) why does the vm need a vmem file? Doesn't the vm use the Host's RAM (2332MB) as it's memory? Exactly how does the vm use the vmem file?
