Hey fellow VmWarers....
I work for a non profit organization that is looking to virtualize Citrix with our Hospital Information Systems software. We currently are using VMServer and have pushed out one server to our users, but we are not seeing the kind of performance we expect. I have read post after post, and all the manuals to no avail.
Our host server is spec'd at:
\- Dual Pentium Quad-Core Xeon at 1.8Ghz
\- 12 GB RAM
\- 4 15K SAS drives in Raid 5
\- Windows Server 2003 x64 Edition
The Guest is spec'd at
-One Pentium 1.8Ghz
-3GB RAM
-2 HD in SCSI virtual Controller.
-Windows 2000 Server 32-bit
Our HIS software is very CPU intensive, and we will see the guest CPU go to 100% (with 2 users) and the guest machine slows to a crawl, but the host is only using 10-15% of its overall CPU. The HAL is set to Uniprocessor, I have tried changing it to Multiprocessor and have changed the VMserver spec to have 2 CPUs, but it doesn't seem like it does too much. The HIS software is not written to handle multi-threads completely but it performs MUCH better on our old Dual PIII 1Ghz Servers (with 15 users). Am I missing a setting? Any help is much appreciated! Thanks!
