Hi,
I have installed the VMware server and VMware MUI packages (build 2088) onto the host system -- SUSE 9, running on x86_64, kernel 2.6.5-7.252. During installation, the only non-default option I chose was putting the console port to 904 (instead of the default 902).
I installed the client console onto a Win XP Pro, SP 2 system. I open up the console application and point it to my SUSE Server (express-vm). When I try to connect, I get the following error:
\----
\[VMware Server Console - e.x.p build-22009]
There was a problem connecting:
Cannot connect to host express-vm: No connection could be made because the target machine actively refused it.
\----
Notes:
a) this happens very fast -- there seems to be no consultation with the vmware authorization daemon
b) this happens with root and local ids, passwords are correct
c) is it important that the console reports build 22009? Is it meant to be different than the 22088 build level of the server?
If I connect with telnet to port 904, I get:
Z:\>telnet express-vm:904
Connecting To express-vm:904...Could not open connection to the host, on port 23: Connect failed
If I connect via the web to http://express-vm:904, I get this displayed:
220 VMware Authentication Daemon Version 1.10: SSL Required, MKSDisplayProtocol:VNC
I can connect to the server console through my browser at https://express-vm:8333, and there is no problem with seeing/starting/stopping installed VM images. Just with the console application.
Did I miss something during the setup? Is it configuration related? I'm stumped.
