Daily copy / sync of .vmdk files

Hello,

Running VMWare Server 1.0 on a W2k3 host, with one single VM running SBS2003 Server. To quickly be able to restore the SBS2003 server after a total disaster, we plan on performing a copy of the VM's .vmdk files nightly. We talk about roughly 140GB of virtual disk files. The files will be copied to an external disk that is able to write at approximately 25 MB/sec. So a complete copy will take roughly 1.5 hours, which isn't a big problem, but we'd like to keep this down to a minimum.

Hence the idea to use rsync (a binary compiled for the Windows platform), which would only copy the differences after the first full copy. A small script would suspend the VM, do the rsync, and then restart the VM.

Are there any (better?) alternatives to rsync for this, maybe a commercial product?

Any other thoughts or ideas about our way of doing?

Thanks!

Alain
