Hi all,
I have VMware Server (now build 28343) running on Debian Etch Linux (2.6.16) on Asus A8V-VM (VIA chipset) with Athlon X2 4200+. I've tested the machine with memtest86. The Guest OS is XP 32 bit with SP2 configured to have 1 CPU and 640 MiB RAM. I'm accessing it remotely via Server Console (the host does not have a monitor). Occasionally, the guest OS got the blue screen STOP 0x0000007F (0x00000000, 0x00000000, 0x00000000, 0x00000000) - division by zero. I started testing VMware Server with build 22847 and I think the problem has been there all the time.
I have other VMs on the host with Linux as guest OS. These run apparently without problems.
I've checked the system again, replaced RAM but that did not help.
Then I've built a completely new second machine, again with Athlon X2 4200+, but this time with Asus M2NPV-VM (nForce chipset). I've been running the guest for some days and I already assumed it was a hardware problem on the first machine, but now I got the very same BSOD again.
I've noticed that the problem might be connected with user activity in the guest which involves scrolling window contents by using the mouse.
I think that VM was created with VMware Workstation on Windows about end of 2005, but I'm not sure about that.
It seems to me that the problem might be related to the VGA driver. I've read that building (installing) a new VM with the Vmware Server could help. I've also noticed hidden and/or unused devices (in guest OS) were mentioned.
As always with this kind of problems - I can not reproduce it and it strikes infrequently...
Please advise what I shall try next to localize the problem. I'm ready to invest some time in order to solve it.
thank you in advance,
Georg
