I have a problem with OpenSuSE 10.1 and VMware Server 1.0.1: whenever I switch from runlevel 5 to 3 and vice versa, the Server dies with the following entries in /var/log/vmware-serverd.log - see below.
Additional you should know that the init-scripts are executed parallel - SuSE-Default.
In my opinion the vmware-serverd[/b] - unlike the server-console - should not be affected by "simply" changing the runlevel from graphical X11 to text-only console mode. The network and all other drivers aren't affected by changing the runlevel. SuSE claims those services which are active in both runlevels are not affected by altering the runlevel: "To avoid redundant starts when changing run levels, only those services are started which have no start link in the previous run level." (from /etc/init.d/README).
