I have a web based database application that I setup on my customers servers. Most of my customers have only one windows server (windows 2000 or windows 2003) and they are using it as a MS-SQL server and my application is using the same database. Normalyy, when I have to setup my application for a new customer, I have to setup IIS on their servers and configure the database connectivity. Now I want to user the free vmware server to host my applicaton, I've setup a windows 2000 server with IIS 5.0 and MS-SQL client connectivity tools and running my web based application as a web server. With this vm, all I have to do is to install the vmware server ont the customers server and copy my prebuilt server files and make a little network bridge setups and my setup is done. The performance of my application with vmware server is acceptable and I do not have to bother with any configuration other then setting up vmware server on their server. indeed, they are buying the license for the guest os (windows 2000 server) too. Now I have to learn is that possible? I decided to use vmware server becouse it's good for me to manage and give support to my customers remotely and it'll shorten the initial setup time on my customers site... But if there are any licencing issues about vmware server using like this, I can give up...
