VMware server memory controller service failed to start

Hi all,

using VMware server 1.0.1 with host OS windows 2000 server and windows 2003 server.

Running a guest with OS Windows XP I get an error message in the system log of the guest system from the service control manager with event ID 7000:

"The VMware Server memory controller service failed to start with the following error:  The system cannot find the path specified."

1. I do not receive this error on all virtual machines using XP only on "some"

2. there is no service in the guest OS called anything like "memory controller service"

3. those systems occasionally have issues - I am running a root cause analysis and found this error.

Has anyone seen this error as well?

Experienced issues on the guests when this error shows up?

Any kind of information what it is and how it can be fixed?
