Gentoo: Could not exec vmware-authd: /usr/sbin/vmware-authd does not exist

I searched the web and the forums, but I have not been able to see the answer to my issue.  The vmware console works fine.  The mui fails with the error: Could not exec vmware-authd: /usr/sbin/vmware-authd does not exist.  I looked and it doesn't exist.

From what I can see the vmware console uses its own authd as shown below.

-rwsx- 1 root vmware 161892 Nov 28 16:27 /opt/vmware/server/sbin/vmware-authd

I tired making a link in /usr/sbin pointing to the above file to no avail?

I saw the stuff about 32/64 bit libraries and I am unclear if this applies to my situation.  I am running Gentoo 2.6.17 SMP AMD64.

Does anyone have any pointers, suggestions, kind words of encouragement?
