Question regarding virtual machine BIOS options

Two quick questions:

1. If my VM HOST has ECC memory and I do not set the VM GUEST BIOS to recognize this via the menu:

Advanced ->

   Advanced Chipset Control ->

      ECC Config | SERR signal condition

Do I benefit from the ECC memory or do I still need to set the option within the guest?

2.  Could someone point me to a resource on the VM bios options?  ( I couldn't find one on vmware site or in the forums.)
