Console won't accept keyboard input or show output on guest

I am running CentOS 4.3 on the server with VMware Server 1.0.1-29996

All of the guests (12) are setup as Linux 2.6 other and have Fedora Core 2 installed. This is in an open student lab and no more than 3-6 guests are running at one time.

All 12 guests have been installed and on some (3 so far) the student will start the guest with Server Console on a Windows client and the interface window is balck. Nothing shows up (not even the VMware spash/bios screen) from the moment they press the power button. When we click in the windows of the console where the guest should be displayed, Console will not take control of the mouse (the mouse pointer stays white and normally it turns black when the guest windows has control) So, of course, we don't have to press Ctrl-Alt to get the mouse 'back' because control never leaves the local machine.

This happens after the guest OS is installed and the console has been used to access the guest without any previous problems.

After the guest starts and console does not display anything or accept keyboard input for the guest window, I have confirmed the guest os is running because we can ping it and use putty to make a remote connection via ssh. The guest os works fine from putty but not in the console.

I have reviewed guest logs, vm logs and server logs and do not see anything 'funny'. There could be something there, I am just not recoginsing it. So, I did not want to burden this thread now with logs.

If you have any ideas regarding this issue or if logs would help, let me know

Thanks

Don
