Multiple VMDK files....why?

Hello,

I am new to Virtual Server and have a question that I am hoping you guys can help with.

I have a virtural server and in its directory it has these files and their corresponding sizes....

Windows 2003 Server Enterprise Edition-000001.vmdk  (131 GB)

Windows 2003 Server Enterprise Edition-000002.vmdk  (4.7 GB)

Windows 2003 Server Enterprise Edition-000003.vmdk  (2.9 GB)

Windows 2003 Server Enterprise Edition.vmdk                (2.5 GB)

Windows 2003 Server Enterprise Edition.vmsd

Windows 2003 Server Enterprise Edition.vmx

At one point we did make a snapshot but I have used the VM Console to remove the snapshot.  At this point, VM Console does not think it has a snapshot.

I am wondering why I have 4 disk files?

I am running into a space issue on the physical hard drive these files are on and would like to shirink them but the utilities only seem to shrink or are able to access the Windows 2003 Server Enterprise Edition.vmdk file and not the other 3 files.

Here are the contents of the .vmsd file.....

snapshot.lastUID = "7"

snapshot.numSnapshots = "0"

snapshot.current = "0"

snapshot0.uid = "7"

snapshot0.filename = "w[/i]indows server 2003 enterprise edition-Snapshot7.vmsn"[/i]

snapshot0.displayName = "VMware Server Undopoint"

snapshot0.description = "VMware Server 1.0.0 build-28343"

snapshot0.type = "1"

snapshot0.createTimeHigh = "269412"

snapshot0.createTimeLow = "-223946248"

snapshot0.numDisks = "1"

snapshot0.disk0.fileName = "Windows Server 2003 Enterprise Edition-000003.vmdk"

snapshot0.disk0.node = "scsi0:0"

snapshot1.uid = "7"

snapshot1.filename = "windows server 2003 enterprise edition-Snapshot7.vmsn"

snapshot1.parent = "6"

snapshot1.displayName = "VMware Server Undopoint"

snapshot1.description = "VMware Server 1.0.0 build-28343"

snapshot1.type = "1"

snapshot1.createTimeHigh = "269412"

snapshot1.createTimeLow = "-223946248"

snapshot1.numDisks = "1"

snapshot1.disk0.fileName = "Windows Server 2003 Enterprise Edition-000003.vmdk"

snapshot1.disk0.node = "scsi0:0"[/i]

Here are the contents of .vmx file.....

config.version = "8"

virtualHW.version = "4"

scsi0.present = "TRUE"

scsi0.virtualDev = "lsilogic"

memsize = "1028"

scsi0:0.present = "TRUE"

scsi0:0.fileName = "Windows Server 2003 Enterprise Edition-000002.vmdk"

ide1:0.present = "TRUE"

ide1:0.fileName = "auto detect"

ide1:0.deviceType = "cdrom-raw"

floppy0.fileName = "A:"

Ethernet0.present = "TRUE"

displayName = "TEST-BIDW"

guestOS = "winnetenterprise"

priority.grabbed = "normal"

priority.ungrabbed = "normal"

scsi0:0.redo = ""

ethernet0.addressType = "generated"

uuid.location = "56 4d f8 0b 79 44 4f 59-ad b5 b9 0e 94 2c 50 52"

uuid.bios = "56 4d f8 0b 79 44 4f 59-ad b5 b9 0e 94 2c 50 52"

ide1:0.autodetect = "TRUE"

ethernet0.generatedAddress = "00:0c:29:2c:50:52"

ethernet0.generatedAddressOffset = "0"

ide1:0.startConnected = "TRUE"

tools.syncTime = "FALSE"

workingDir = "."

gui.powerOnAtStartup = "TRUE"

checkpoint.vmState = ""

checkpoint.vmState.readOnly = "FALSE"

snapshot.disabled = "TRUE"[/i]

Can anybody help me understand why the 4 files and how can i shrink  the 01, 02, and 03 files?

Thank you,

Rhino
