Hello. I run VMware server 1.0.1 build 29996 on Win2K Server SP4. I have a guest OS of Win2K Server SP4, configured for bridged networking. This VM is a DC in my Win2K AD, and has been working fine for months. Today I got messages in the VM indicating problems with it's AD; however, reseting the MS Security Channel using MS KB 830069 resolved it.
So now all was working as it should. I stopped and restarted the VM a few times; all was well. I shut it down, and manually made a copy of the image directory to a new location, intending to re-open it with a new name, in a non-bridged networking (i.e., in a private, self-contained LAN). I restarted the VM; all was well.
I started a shutdown, and went to open the new VM. Unfortunately, I told it to open the \*existing* VM instead. When it asked me if I wanted to create a new identifier, or keep the exisiting id, I selected "keep".
Now neither VM will open. They just sit there, at the "Preparing Network Connections" screen, and go no further. Others VMs start, but not either of these. I can't close or power down these VMs. Eventually, the whole VMware Server Console gives me an error 511 - Error connecting to the vmserverd process. I tried stopping and restarting all VMware services, but the "Registration" process hangs, and I have to eventually reboot the host.
Can anybody help? I'd really like my VM back; manually digging a DC out of AD is not something I would like to do ....
