SAN Connectivity / Presenting a Multipath Disk Device to a VM

Hello,

We're running VMWare Server 1.0.0-24927, on RedHat Enterprise AS4 U3.  We'd like to provide a Windows Server 2003 VM with access to our SAN - the two ideas we've been exploring are (1) present the VM with a raw disk device which is managed by device-mapper-multipath (E.G. /dev/md-4 or /dev/mpath/lu devices), or (2) present the two HBAs to the VM and let them run multipathing software.

Neither of these potential solutions has worked - VMWare Server does not allow us to continue when adding a raw disk device other than /dev/sdX, and passing through a /dev/sgX device as a SCSI controller does not look like an HBA to the guest OS.  I can pass /dev/sdb or /dev/sdc through to the VM, but this would use only one fabric to our storage, and is not what we want.

I should add that we want to present this VM with 2 Tb of storage, so a 2TB vdsk file residing on the SAN is probably not a good idea <?>.

Any suggestions as to how we might be able to accomplish SAN connectivity with VMWare Server are appreciated - is anyone doing something like this?
