Wer'e just setting up a new Dell 2900 w/- 4gb and 5 hard drives; 2 x 80Gb configured as RAID 1 (so 80Gb total), and 3 x 160Gb in RAID 5 (so 320Gb total).
I'm wondering about the best way to set up the VM's (probably 4) in this scenario. The host operating system (Server 2003 Standard) will be on the 80gb drive. I'm thinking the VM's will be there too, but pointing to data on the RAID 5 drives. So the result is, ALL servers (and applications) will be on the 80Gb drive, and ALL data will be on the RAID 5, 320 Gb drive.
If this is OK, then the next question is, is it better to partition the 80Gb drive so that the HOST operating system is separate from the partition containing the VM's?
thanks
