VMWare Authorization Service Hung on starting

System Details:

VMWare Server Console 1.0.0 Build 24927

Host OS - W2000 SP4 Server

Event Log ID - 7022

This error has happened twice now after VMWare seemed to crash doing something innocuous (this time it was trying to do a snapshot).  After rebooting the Server I get the error on startup.  Bizarrely the Service appears to be running and will respond to stop and restart commands.

In terms of symptoms VMWare Server starts OK but  I cannot launch any images, there are no errors, the image appears to be starting but nothing happens and you cannot access the IMage settings.

First time I fixed this by reinstalling but am keen to find out what is going on.
