Garmin GPS (USB)

I'm trying to get my Garmin GPSMAP60CS to work with VMWare Server.

Windows 2000SP4 guest running on a Linux host.

SuSE kernel 2.6.11.4-21.10-default,   VMware-server-e.x.p-22088 rpm.

I realize this is a bit of an often asked question,  found the following searching:

I added what I thought was the necessary debugging options and it appears they are recognised:

Apr 04 16:52:36: vmx| DICT       usb.analyzer.enable = TRUE

Apr 04 16:52:36: vmx| DICT       debug = TRUE

Removing and adding the device causes the following klog messages:

usb 4-1: USB disconnect, address 5

garmin_gps ttyUSB0: Garmin GPS usb/tty converter now disconnected from ttyUSB0

garmin_gps 4-1:1.0: device disconnected

usb 4-1: new full speed USB device using uhci_hcd and address 6

garmin_gps 4-1:1.0: Garmin GPS usb/tty converter detected

usb 4-1: Garmin GPS usb/tty converter now attached to ttyUSB0

But I don't see any USB log messages in the vmware.log.   The logfile is receiving output (confirmed by tail -f), just nothing usb related.

Obviously the device isn't showing up in VM/Removable devices (just shows empty) and if I run the Garmin Mapsource client inside of Win2k it fails to see the GPS.

Is there any point in trying to debug,  in which case what am I doing wrong?

Or should I give up and fall back to serial speeds using Interceptty as mentioned in the other threads?

Thanks

Tony
