Game server performance? LAN party!

Hey guys, I run a LAN party in DC and was wondering how VMware Server could handle game servers. Just to give you an idea; two servers 2.8Ghz p4’s, 2gb of ram. I was hoping to run 2 VM’s on each server. Ex/ one as a BF2 server and one as a Q4 server. My reason for this is because as it stands its just a pain to try and get multiple copies of certain games running at once (ut2k4 comes to mind).

I realize this isn’t ideal and not really what VMWare was built to do, but here’s the thought: we have people who are willing to dedicate boxes, but only for the day. We could throw a really minimal install (kickstart) onto those machines, put the VM’s on it and just go without having to deal with setup and all that (as it would be done well in advance).

I did a quick search and saw someone talking about doing it on ESX and how it probably was a bad idea, but I’m looking for some real numbers ect. Is this something I’m going to have to test for myself and post results, or has someone tried this?
