Installation Problem: Error 1713

Hello!

I just tried to install VM Server (VMware-server-installer-1.0.0-28343.exe) and the installation terminates with "Error 1713.VMWare Server cannot install one of its required products. Contact your technical support group." (however I had this behaviour with previous releases too).

It seems that the installation process has a problem invoking the sub-installations of the client tools (installation status is: "Installing VMware VmCOM Scripting API"; e.g. VMware-VmCOMAPI-1.0.0-28343.exe; are installed in the same source directory). Trying to install the client tools manually leads to the following error issued by the windows installer (translated): "The system administartor has issued some policies to prevent this installation.". I think this problem is the main trouble-source...

My environment:

\* Win XP (SP2)

\* Windows Installer 3.1 installed

\* Installations started with admin-rights (once as memeber of the admin-group and once as admin direct; both times the same problem)

\* System- and security-policies should be standard (I never made any (manual) changes to them)

\* MD5-checksums of the installation files are OK

\* Deactivating the anti-virus-software before starting the installation does not fix the problem (AVK antivir)

However I'm not sure if security policies are the real problem or if this error is more or less the result of an "unhandeled" execution failure?!

Maybe somebody here in the forum has an idea for a solution?

Thanks a lot for any help posted!
