MUI thinks VMware server is not installed

Two days ago I installed the release version of VMware Server 1.0 on my Ubuntu 6.06 LTS server install.  All of that went fantastic and I have a running and fully functional VMware Server instance right now.  However, I am running into a brick wall with the MUI install.  During the install process I accept the license and then immediatly after that I get this message:

=====

Do you accept? (yes/no) yes

Thank you.

Installing the content of the package.

VMware Server must be installed on this machine for the VMware Management

Interface to work

Execution aborted.

=====

Here is what exactly I am installing:

Server: VMware-server-1.0.0-28343.tar.gz

MUI: VMware-mui-1.0.0-28343.tar.gz

From what I can tell on the VMware download page for VMware server, this is the current and latest build for both.  I also did a complete uninstall, purged all old config files and anything else VMware related and i still get this message.  Does anyone have any ideas?
